Bengaluru : A nine-member committee constituted with regard to working out the modalities of giving official status to the state flag will be holding its first meeting on November 9.
The state government had constituted the panel headed by Kannada and Culture Department Secretary Chakravarthi Mohan five months ago. The committee could not meet so far as the government delayed sending an official intimation to the members that they had been appointed to the panel.
The committee was constituted following a memorandum by veteran journalist and Kannada activist Patil Puttappa and others in 2014 that the state should have its own flag.
The announcement of the committee had led to a debate on the state having a flag and whether the Constitution and law allows for the same.
The panel will go through all legal aspects pertaining to the issue.
